Literally. Here’s hoping I get to update my “Plurk” as often as my co-workers do. Add me up people! The handle is Alvinj.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones that you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. –Mark Twain
I’ve mentioned before that I used to be a member of my high school’s varsity volleyball team, yes? Many have asked why I quit. Partly because I was even more of a social misfit back then than I am now, and when my then bestfriend quit, quitting seemed like the only acceptable choice (as opposed to having to talk to other people/teammates). Also because of a reason I am too embarrassed to admit, except to that one person. I’ve never realized then, but not pursuing that path is something I will always slightly regret.
I really do miss playing.

“The lioness is reunited with her cub, and all is right in the world”–from Kill Bill 2
Being a parent, IMO, is a life time, and often thankless, job. When you’re a parent, you are your kids’ safety net FOREVER–or at least until they learn to fly on their own. The security brought by having a decent family is priceless, but not always appreciated. [Good] parents pay the bills, cook the food, clean the house. They do (or they are supposed to) the mundane, everyday things that make a house a home–that makes a relative become family. That makes the world right-side up. That makes a person feel like a bridge is over the chasm, and he will never fall into that lonely abyss.
There is nothing in the world that could make a person feel like the rug has been yanked from under his feet than having nobody to rely on. […]

It’s been a while since I last posted. Don’t worry, my interest has not waned. The past few weeks have just been about work, sports, work, sports, and more sports! Will update this post tomorrow (after work, and after more sports!)

Kobe Bryant - The Tale of an Epic Era from Marlo I.B. on Vimeo.
According to this report, Kobe Bryant will be officially declared as the NBA’s Most Valuable Player for the 2007-08 season.
“MVP nowadays is not an individual award,” he said last month. “You really have to make your teammates better and elevate your ballclub. For me to be nominated in that race is a tremendous honor because that’s really been one of the criticisms that people have had of me, is how well do I make my teammates better. From that standpoint, I feel like I’ve already won.”
It’s hard to fathom that at the beginning of the season, the guy was lobbying for a trade. Look at where he is now. Congratulations KB24! All the way to the finals baby!

My girlfriend had already been blogging since 2003 when I found out what blogging was. Not that I’m competing with her, but I just realized that it took me only 7 months to reach what it took her 6 years to do — reach a hundred posts. I’d also be the first to tell you though, that quality wise, I think I have a long way to go. Visit her new blog and you’ll know what I mean.
Over the past few months, I also realized that this is a dedication. Slowly but surely, my misconception that blogging was nothing but an online attempt for self promotion also started to wane. All of these realizations came to be just because I wanted to write. Write about how I feel, whenever I feel like it. This is who I am. And this blog is a daily collection of my own Jerry Ma-****ing […]

Though I did not know Aling Lucing personally, I can’t help but feel sad about what happened. Trust me, the one hour drive to Angeles is well worth it. Though I’ve given up on beef and pork, I think it’s safe to say my first taste of her sisig was a life changing experience. Seriously.
Farewell Aling Lucing. May your sisig reciple will live through the ages.

Five months after my first post about GamesMaster, and I’m finally done with my story. Everyone who was able to read (love it or hate it) a copy of GamesMaster should be thankful to the following people for making it possible.
Lisa Gokongwei and Aurora Mangubat, for deciding to bring in a videogame magazine
Denis del Callar and Neil Palabrica, for giving me the chance to make my own decisions.
Ed Geronia, Jaykee Evangelista, and the rest of the GM staff. Next to the FHM people, I think we had the most fun at the office
The Summit Advertising Team. Special mention to Cha Clarino and Ginger Taduran (O wag na masama loob) for literally hitting our monthly quotas by themselves.
The Production, Circulation, Trade, Web, and Events teams, for making GamesMaster’s presence felt in the three years that it was on the newsstands.
Of course, my fellow Associate Publishers, for […]

I still remember the first time I logged onto the Internet. I even called my uncle in New York so I could ask for his e-mail address (just to test my Eudora client!). You were considered kickass if you had an Intel powered machine (MMX pa!), and a 56k modem. Pang ICQ at mIRC pare! Hanep!
Sarcasm aside, I never knew I would become an email marketer by profession.
You send emails everyday for a living?
Er, kinda.
From magazines to emails? Why the switch?
Let’s just say we don’t just send out emails, we’re the best at it. We handle the email campaigns of the 81st ranked Internet Retailer in the US. If you don’t think that’s a big feat, then think about this –we’re up there with the likes of Apple, Dell, Bestbuy, Amazon, and all the other well known retailers on the list. And guess what, we sell auto parts!
If […]
