My Pending Blogposts Folder + Cameron Diaz

Posted on July 27th, 2008 in Publishing 101 | No Comments »

I have this “Pending Blogposts” folder on my desktop. When I see something I’d want to share my thoughts on, I just dump it in the thing. Man, I’ve sure got a lot of catching up to do. Because of work and my FHM sports blog, I’ve mildly neglected JustAnotherGame. Hopefully, my post frequency can go back to about 2-3 posts per week. Hopefully.
Anyway, one thing I loved doing when I was still working in Summit was to comment on magazine covers. You’d be surprised at the number of tweaks/innovations/changes (or whatever you want to call them) magazines do in order to “stand out”.
So here goes. I’ll be following no specific formula. You’ll be seeing much more of posts like this in the future.

The reason why I took special attention to this cover is quite simple — the concept of the shoot itself.

Guy 1: Oh, let’s get Cameron to pose […]

A Weekend of Batman

Posted on July 23rd, 2008 in Random Guy Stuff, Rants/Complaints | No Comments »

Now that the dust from the weekend that belonged to The Dark Knight has finally hardly settled, we can all go back to our cozy little workstations and ponder on this masterpiece. Sure makes you feel glad any memory of George Clooney’s one-liners has now been erased from your mind doesn’t it?
There are enough reviews on the web, so I won’t waste your time with mine (Besides, you all know the film is perfect anyway). My movie experience was perfect. I saw Batman Begins on my laptop during my lunch break. I had a good dinner at Taco Bell. Went inside Trinoma’s THX theater a good ten minutes before the movie started — grape soda in one hand, and a large tumbler of popcorn in the other. There was just this one guy that ruined it for me.
I honestly did not know that Two Face was part of this film. […]

Volleys

Posted on July 17th, 2008 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones that you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. –Mark Twain

I’ve mentioned before that I used to be a member of my high school’s varsity volleyball team, yes? Many have asked why I quit. Partly because I was even more of a social misfit back then than I am now, and when my then bestfriend quit, quitting seemed like the only acceptable choice (as opposed to having to talk to other people/teammates). Also because of a reason I am too embarrassed to admit, except to that one person. I’ve never realized then, but not pursuing that path is something I will always slightly regret.
I really do miss playing.

Rug

Posted on July 17th, 2008 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

“The lioness is reunited with her cub, and all is right in the world”–from Kill Bill 2

Being a parent, IMO, is a life time, and often thankless, job. When you’re a parent, you are your kids’ safety net FOREVER–or at least until they learn to fly on their own. The security brought by having a decent family is priceless, but not always appreciated. [Good] parents pay the bills, cook the food, clean the house. They do (or they are supposed to) the mundane, everyday things that make a house a home–that makes a relative become family. That makes the world right-side up. That makes a person feel like a bridge is over the chasm, and he will never fall into that lonely abyss.
There is nothing in the world that could make a person feel like the rug has been yanked from under his feet than having nobody to rely on. […]

Never in the history of blogging here in the Philippines that a prestigious blog platform conducted a seminar on what’s hot and what’s not in the blogging arena, only this year. I’m joining WordCamp Philippines 2008 courtesy of Mindanao Bloggers because topics are very interesting. Looking forward to learn more on Wordpress and SEO since this is my field. This event will also expand my sphere of influence and establish contacts with blogging aficionados and pundits.

Men’s Health Miracle Run 2008

Posted on July 14th, 2008 in Sports Personalities & Events | No Comments »

A 10km marathon where you get more attention if you’re coming in last? Sounds good to me!
On August 17, lace up those running shoes and go on over to The Fort on August 17 for Men’s Health Magazine’s first ever Miracle Run! Though I haven’t talked with Neil (my former boss), and the magazine’s current publisher, proceeds of the event will be going to the GMA Kapuso Foundation. I’m guessing that the P200,000 bucks will go to the victims of Typhoon Frank.
If you’re not the hardcore All-Terrain Race type (don’t get me wrong, I love my knees so I don’t think I’ll be doing that race again), this is one run you can definitely be a part of. Just visit the Men’s Health Miracle Run microsite to download the registration form.

Back to the Future with Nike Air Mc Fly Hyperdunks

Posted on July 10th, 2008 in Kicks | No Comments »

If there is any movie franchise out there that has gone all out to paint a realistic picture of what we may see in the next fifty or so years, it would have to be Back to the Future. 3D movies. Multi-screen televisions. Video conference calls. This is stuff we’re already taking advantage of now. It’s sometimes hard to believe that more than two decades ago, these were merely ideas. I bought the 3-disc set when it first came out in 2003, and I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of watching all three over and over again. Well, maybe not the 3rd.
Aside from the self drying jackets and flying skateboards in the 2nd installment, no invention is as iconic as those Nike Air Mc Fly’s. They were so popular, that some guy actually started a petition about it in 2006. Two years hence, and Nike has finally […]
