Shining Star by Get Far

Posted on March 31st, 2008 in Before and After | No Comments »

Just can’t get enough of this song right now. Seeing the video however, brought the excitement level down a notch.
This other version, though sung by a mainstream local artist, is a pretty good effort IMO.

How reliable are Smart’s International Services?

Posted on March 29th, 2008 in Technology | No Comments »

I’m probably one of those people who text more than they call. Thanks to Yahoo Messenger, the expenses are somehow lessened. However, there are a lot of times when I’d use my Smart line to text instead (After all, I can’t pull out my computer and get an Internet connection anytime I want to).
The messages are always received by the girlfriend on time. What puzzles me are the late arrivals of most (if not, all), of her text messages. We’re not talking about a few hours here — some of the text messages I receive arrive after a day! Imagine what would happen if I had to make a bank account deposit, and the message arrives on a Saturday. Geez.
Mariel uses a Cingular Wireless prepaid line in New York, so I don’t know and I’m not sure if the problem is coming from her end. Before I got my Smart […]

Ford Motors: Powered by You

Posted on March 28th, 2008 in Branding Genius | No Comments »

Ford has always been one of the most reliable vehicle brands in the US. In one way or another, the brand is already a part of American culture. “Built to Last” has been their tagline for the longest time, and one cannot agree more that that’s exactly how their vehicles are made.
It’s what you do with it that makes it yours. It also helps if it already feels like yours,
the first time you get behind the wheel.

How does that happen? Listening. To you.

Everywhere you go, everything you do, you are the inspiration.
Because a car is just a car, until it’s powered by you.

In my opinion, this trumps even Honda’s amazing “Cog” campaign.

Playboy Philippines nearing Launch

Posted on March 27th, 2008 in Publishing 101, Print Media, TV, and PR | No Comments »

As April draws near, details are finally starting to clear up regarding Playboy Philippines’ launch.
Playboy Magazine Philippine Edition is scheduled to be launched April 2 at Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City.

Dolor boasts of his contributors. “I have five or six Palanca Awardees as contributors,” he says, without divulging his prize-winning contributors or the articles in the first issue next month.
In the Philippines, “being daring doesn’t dictate the success of men’s magazines in the Philippines,” notes adverting and marketing specialist Ed Estrada of Image Dimensions.

If there’s one thing I learned about marketing magazines, it’s that determining your target market counts for around 10% of your success. Reaching them counts for the other 90%. Convincing your advertisers that such a market exists? Well, you’ll need the help of time at the newsstands, third party surveys, and audit results for that.
Judging by the initial statements of the people behind Playboy Philippines, I can […]

Updated Yahoo Messenger for Mac

Posted on March 26th, 2008 in Technology | No Comments »

When I get home from work, the first thing I usually do is log on to my PC (Yeah, you read that right). I do this because I use Yahoo Messenger to send text messages to the girlfriend. Imagine my surprise when I turned on my Macbook today — a new update for Yahoo Messenger!
Voice, Check.
SMS — Check!
I don’t care what else they added. All that matters to me are the two new features above.
Hmmm… does this mean I won’t be using my desktop PC anymore? Don’t get me wrong, I still love my PC (and my games). Yahoo just made my life a lot simpler

Need a reason to get a Next-Gen System this April?

Posted on March 25th, 2008 in Videogames & Interactive Media | No Comments »

The game itself costs $59.99. For $30 more, you get all of this instead. What kind of a no brainer is that? I’m sure Sony and Microsoft are wishing this game was an exclusive to their platform. Here’s some real life GTA for your enjoyment.

Mark Burnett’s Survivor being shot in Camarines Sur?

Posted on March 24th, 2008 in Print Media, TV, and PR | No Comments »

If rumors are true, then a Pinay video blogger’s efforts can’t possibly compare with the PR Mark Burnett’s Survivor will generate for Philippine tourism. Yes,  Survivor might be filming in Camarines Sur islands as you are reading this.
Ngunit nitong nakaraang Holy Week, tourists and even local vacationers—including some celebrities—at pati na rin ang ibang mga mismong taga-Gota Beach sa Agirangan Island na part ng Caramoan Peninsula sa Camarines Sur were not allowed to enter the said beach resort to do their Semana Santa vacation. Doon daw kasi nagsu-shooting ang next season ng Survivor. Full article can be found here.

Though it started the reality trend on television, Survivor has somehow lost its luster over the past few years. Just another case of same old same old? Maybe so. I guess the people of Camsur should just be glad that the show lasted this long. Hope the people there don’t jack up […]

Where is the love for Chris Paul?

Posted on March 23rd, 2008 in Sports Personalities & Events | No Comments »

Apparently, you won’t find it on ESPN.
According to J.A. Adande (who is he?) of ESPN.com, the MVP race is going to come down to Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, and Kevin Garnett. Chris Paul? There is no mention of his name in the article. After what the guy has done this season (not that it matters, but he’s he #1 player in Fantasy Basketball now), you gotta at least throw his name in there somewhere.
I’m a self-confessed Kobe Bryant fan, but believe me these people didn’t come up with this site for nothing. Honestly, the praise is well deserved. Check out his dunk on Supah’ Man on the last play.
