Ne-yo in Manila + Ways to rip off Araneta Coliseum

Posted on February 29th, 2008 in Random Guy Stuff | No Comments »

When I found out that Ne-yo was coming to Manila, I told myself I wouldn’t watch because the girlfriend was out of the country. On my way to work this morning, Wave 89.1 was having some kind of scavenger hunt for 9 teams. The prize? Actual backstage passes to the concert. Wow. And then after each commercial break, they would play songs he either sang or wrote.
I just realized, there was just no way I was going to miss this concert. Kahit general admission lang.

Ne-yo in Manila + Ways to rip of Araneta Coliseum

When I found out that Ne-yo was coming to Manila, I told myself that I wouldn’t watch because the girlfriend was out of the country, and I would have no one to accompany me. On my way to work this morning, Wave 89.1 was having some kind of scavenger hunt for 9 teams. The prize? Actual backstage passes to the concert. Wow. And then after each commercial break, they would play songs he either sang or wrote.
I realized, there was just no way I was going to miss this concert. Kahit general admission lang.
I immediately texted my brother and told him to find out if general admission tickets were still available. After a few minutes, he texted and said the people at Araneta said there were still 2,000+ tickets left. Hence, we made plans to meet up at the venue by 7pm.
Since my younger sister wanted to go, we […]

The PBA is a San Miguel Corporation League

Posted on February 27th, 2008 in Print Media, TV, and PR | No Comments »

When former PBA commissioner Noli Eala was forced to resign because of extramarital affairs with a married woman in the early part of last year, he had these words to say.
“…I have always believed that the PBA is bigger than any one man, one team, one player or one team owner”
He missed something in that statement - that there is one company that’s bigger than the PBA. One look at the current team lineup and you’ll notice that San Miguel owns more than enough teams to exact a significant influence.

My First Taste of Golden Tilapia at the Riverfarm

Posted on February 25th, 2008 in Around The Philippines | No Comments »

So where is the Riverfarm? Along the highway of La Union, if keen enough, you will see the signage to the resto under the bridge. The place is popular to visiting Manileños.
What’s special? I never thought there was Golden Tilapia just the usual Black Tilapia. The locals said it was delicious, and it truly was and it was fresh from the riverfarm.
I’m Ilocana, well my parents are tubong Ilocos, whilst me and sisters grew up in Manila. Nonetheless, we were housed and exposed to Ilocano food.I say, Ilocanos are great cooks, not just because I was born in an Ilocano family, but because it’s true.
Blend.. taste.. gosh.. truly golden.. the tilapia
The grilled liempo and chicken was amazingly tasty.. really tasty as the marinade seeped through the meat as inahaw doesn’t necessarily mean that all taste a like.
Yummy.
Add ons: You can dine on the floating hut (with an extra cost […]

When Editorial Integrity is Thrown Out the Window

Posted on February 24th, 2008 in Print Media, TV, and PR | No Comments »

Unless you’re talking about some porn mag, there’s just no way a magazine will survive without advertising in the Philippines. Though our land is home to the best writers and photographers in the world, that’s just how it is. Another challenge for magazines is how to make their content fresh and dynamic enough to warrant a monthly purchase. P100-P125 for a magazine can be quite a stretch for the typical C market reader.
To put it simply, a magazine doesn’t rank high on a need scale at all.

Movie Review: Amélie

Posted on February 21st, 2008 in Silver Screen | No Comments »

The movie Fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain (literal translation: The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain) revolves around Amélie Poulain(Audrey Tautou), a 22-year-old introvert. Amélie’s childhood frustrations propelled her to devise a defense mechanism that she keeps until adulthood: she created her own insular world. Misdiagnosed with a non-existing heart condition, her upbringing is starved of human interaction—and caused her to grow up as a shy and reserved woman who lives a quiet, albeit ordinary life. Although she has a few acquaintances, she prefers to keep all of them at an arm’s distance. Amélie frequently shuns other people’s company, and cultivated an unusually active imagination born out of a childhood of loneliness. Inadvertently, she began to crawl out of her shell when a pivotal moment—involving a perfume cap, a tin box, and the death of Princess Diana—happened in her life, and she accidentally resolves her own issues as she resolved to fix […]

Who is Shawn Yao and the Rogue Magazine Mystery

Posted on February 19th, 2008 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

If you love browsing magazines at your nearest bookstore, then you’ve probably picked up and looked at KC Concepcion’s Rogue Magazine cover — for the early part of this month that is. No doubt about it, the Megastar’s daughter is destined for stardom. She doesn’t just qualify as eye candy, she’s one helluva’ talented woman as well. How can someone be so perfect right?
These reasons though, aren’t why you can no longer find a KC Concepcion Rogue Magazine issue on the newsstands (you can check out the pics here).
Anytime a magazine sells out at least 85% of its monthly print run, you can expect good returns on your monthly investment.
WHAT IF, someone just suddenly decides to purchase all available copies? This strategy was actually explored when a famous men’s magazine launched a year or two ago. While this move would have prevented the title from making a big splash in […]
